Angry ALT-F4 announcement when entering team combat in the Tombs

How this can be shut down I do not know, but it needs to be. Maybe filtering the words.

However it is done, this should just not be allowed at all. The ALT-F4 announcement comes when in the Tombs. So here is the scenario. We get past the fight-the-monsters part, and are now waiting for the team rounds to begin. On local chat someone says "hit ALT-F4 to view team stats" or some other junk like that. We lost a few players that way even when we warned them not to do it and that ALT-F4 quits Guildwars because it is a Windows command not a GW command.

I realize not everyone is familiar with all the Windows keyboard shortcuts so the word needs to get out.

And the people who do this announcement....well I won't post here my feelings and thoughts on them.

This is not that big of a problem,
It's just a game, besides the game didn't even start yet.

As soon the noobies learn, they won't do it again.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean?

If I wasn't clear, you are at the point when you are in your cave and the teams you will be fighting have displayed. You are waiting on the counter and the doors to open so you can attack the other team(s).

Thumbs down Poor sportsmanship and playing dirty

Sorry but I fail to find the humor in it. It's a dirty blow. Your team's chances of winning have dramatically decreased. And the team that did that little announcement wins because they cheated and played dirty.

haha yah i know what you are saying. lol its kinda funny to see all the people leave.

Don't worry about this stuff. It's just a joke and its not a big deal. The people who fall for it will at least NOW know what alt-f4 is and maybe one day will be trying to get a laugh out of it when telling people alt-f4 puts god mode on or something like that.

Seriously, if they didn't know what alt-f4 did, then they deserved it.

You will find that this game seems geared toward children. And this kind of behavier will be defended because its considered good humor and not grieving. Some will say its OK and you have NO right to ruin thier fun becasue you didnt pay for "their" game inspite of the fact thay are ruining yours and the others in the groups it happens to. So good luck and I feel your pain as I find the group quiters to be worse, but everyone has their thorns.

Hey gotta learn what alt-f4 does one way or another. If you told them not to, its their own fault.

I dont think it really matters... i mean... it's kind of funny actually... and out of all my times, ive never seen a "player exits" thing come up after somebody shouts that... I normaly laugh, and reply with something like "Man, you know nobodies stupid enough to fall for the ALT+F4 trick, since all it does is close out the program..."

That way, i get my kicks in, and perhaps those that dont know about it, and see it repeaditly without knowing what it does, will then know... sometimes i bet curiousity can get to people...

These "things" people do in this game, normaly don't have much of an effect... and it gives me a laugh, so meh...

no different then people telling folks to type /disco in their console to see a cool trick in other games.

*sigh* some folks just need to become more computer literate or not be so gullible

People still use the alt-f4 trick? I figured everyone on the interweb knew not to use that.

This strikes me as a self-correcting problem. I mean, does anyone fall for this twice?

However, once people catch on, new tricks can be devised (like telling the other team certain skills or areas of the map or other features do things that they actually don't, and so on).

There isn't a lot you can do about people who will perform particular actions because their enemy told them to do it. I'm aware that not everyone is familiar with common Windows shortcuts, but taking advice from members of the enemy team does require a special kind of stupid, no matter how you slice it. No game feature is going to protect these people from their own shortcomings here.

It's poor sportsmanship, certainly, but there really isn't anything the devs can do to stop it. I mean, sure, they could stop this specific instance, but the general problem will remain.

Rather than a chat filter, it'd be simpler if they just disabled the Alt-F4 combo from within the game. (I know you can disable it; I normally run all video games while running in the background a program called Winkey Assassin, which both disables the Windows key and the Alt-F4 combo.)

And you know all the Windows keyboard shortcuts without a cheatsheet or searching the web? Probably not. I don't know anyone who knows them all. And my experience is that the ones you use are the ones you know. I don't use ALT-F4 to quit a program when CTRL Q or better yet choosing quit from the menu works all the time. BTW how did you learn the shortcuts? Probably not from someone playing a evil, childish prank.

Seriously. How stupid are people to fall for this.

I don't want people on my team who think ALT-F4 is a GW command ... or that the ALT-tab is a fight combo or something else non OS related.

ALT-F4 and like commands are in Windows are there for a reason. For calling up and dropping apps.

People who fall for it do deserve it they should smarten up and learn how to use their computer.

Dramatically? I seriously doubt anyone dim enough to fall for this is making a "dramatic" impact on your group.

Hell I do this in arenas all the time and it cracks me up when people poof out. Sometimes you lose teammates but hey, who needs their noob asses anyway? Once we were at the volcano arena, I did it and we lost 2 while the other team didn't lose anyone. Guess who won? My buddy and I just beat through their soft members one by one, ended up 5-0 because they couldn't bring us down.

Well many games us F keys for other functions besides leaving them default to windows funtions although it is generally used with combinations using the shift key (DAoC for 1 and SWG for another). So no its not that far fetched to think some people would consider it was something diferent here. outside of disabiling it not much they can really do about it though.

As for your oppinion people somehow deserve it. IMPO you should get off your high horse and stop being a selfrightous --- . Its poor sportsmanship wheather you feel they should Know something or not. But yeah all ya can really do is laugh after the fact, but to think people deserve it is kinda stupid again IMPO.
